new york, new york

Mon Aug 13, 2007, 11:31 PM
  • Mood: Wow!
This came so late, but yeah. I went to New York City for three weeks in the SVA cartooning program and it was absolutely AMAZING. I learned so much and met people I hope to be friends with for the rest of my life. It's so crazy how just being around other people passionate about art can inspire you. Being back home is incredibly depressing..

Hopefully I will get a scanner soon so I can upload my comic I made while there. I really want to continue it, there's so much to explore and discover about the world it takes place in, and the characters are really close to my heart.

"Being back home is incredibly depressing." Feel the same way here ^^.

I hope to see more of your work! I really want to get to know more about your characters.

I have, like, three DA journals of people who went to New York today. WTF.

I wish I could do something like that; it must've been so amazing. <3

By the way, did you make it to Broadway? You probably didn't, but it's a shame, since Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal are back with the cast of RENT now. =D

*wants to see the comic, because Vixy art is sexy*

*gasp*
art school summer camp + juu nana sai years old = you are also of the elusive camp of going to apply to art schools this year?? *tranquilizes, studies in captivity*

So ahm. : D Are you looking at SVA as your first choice? Are you applying to others? Are you applying to non-art schools too?

I'm actually not applying until next year, I'm still a junior haha (pretty much the oldest one in my class, ahhh!) so I can't help too much there D::

but! yes I am looking at SVA for my first choice next year, most definitely. I was really really impressed with the cartooning program they had and I looove the city. I think I'm going to apply to several other places, CalArts, the Chicago art institute, RISD (just to see if I can get in), but none of those schools really offer a cartooning program which is what I want to go into. I'm not sure about applying to any non-art schools yet...I honestly can't see myself going to one, but I'd like to apply just to see what I can get into.

I hope that helped! How's your school search going?

Oh, have you heard of SCAD? It's in um. Savannah Geooooorgia, but it's got a big sequential arts program, apparently. Plus is appears to be next to Calarts in the "people from the industry shop for students there" catagory and it's got technology up to its eyeballs 8) *is still kind of shocked by the amount of computers they managed to stuff into that school*. Everyone I know who goes there seems to like it, despite the location (which is actually rather pretty), and it turns out crazy good work despite not requiring a portfolio for admissions. Plus if you have good grades they'll all but pay you to go there.

It was the first art school I visited and after seeing it, I went to RISD and was like, "wtf is this shit?? *wonders where all the computers/talented people/hearty homemade pancakes are*" (I'm applying to RISD too, though)

You cannot reason someone out of a position they didn't reach by reason.
